L6060 tractor loosing and stalling on the brow of hills

Hello all, I seeking your help. My tractor is loosing power and shutting off climbing any hills. I have cleaned out my water separator, replace the fuel filter and clean my air filter. After all of this, its still shutting off. I realize the cup below the water separator does not fill all the way up. Its one of the coldest winter here with temperatures ranging from -11F to -45F. I have also, used a diesel conditioner in the fuel tank to help with any ice built up or moisture.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome and sorry to hear about your problem with the L6060. Perhaps try to narrow down the conditions under which this is happening.

1. Has the tractor only stalled this winter?
2. What temperature is the fuel conditioner rated down to in order to prevent gelling of the fuel?
3. Is the tractor thoroughly warmed up?
4. What range are you using to climb hills?
5. Have you tried a lower range?
6. Are you using a block heater?
7. What engine oil are you using i.e. weight/type?
8. Have you replaced the transmission and hydraulic oil filters?
9. Have you replaced the hydraulic oil or at least checked the level?
10. Could you have water in the hydraulic oil that's freezing?

Lots of questions but maybe something will jump out at you. In the simplest terms, the engine needs air and fuel to run, and the transmission needs transmission oil to flow. Leading candidates given the temperatures you mentioned are fuel gelling (problem would be worse under load), or transmission oil issues possibly rated to very cold oil or water/ice reducing flow.

Your description sounds like restricted fuel flow. When going up hill more fuel needed and not available. If it just began during the frigid weather you might need more additive.

The fuel water separator cup should fill all the way to the top.
Sounds like gelled fuel.

The seat switch can do that but usually on a Downhill.... where your arse comes off the seat slightly...
Might be worth checking anyway... maybe the switch is going bonkers.

Assuming your machine has a seat switch.
My BX was doing it.... until I disabled it.

I would say there is something in the tank that is clogging the outlet. To test this, take the fuel line coming from the tank to the water separator and see what kind of flow you have. It should flow pretty fast. You can use a c-clamp to block the hose off while you take it off the water separator so you don't loose a lot of fuel.

A friend had an L4060 and had winter problems that were finally shown (by the dealer) to be ice in the bottom of the fuel tank that was blocking the fuel pick up. He tried a number of things and wasted money before loading the tractor on the trailer and dropping it off at the dealer, who figured it out rather quickly. He said something about leaving the fuel tank cap off but I got the impression that there was more to the story.

Thanks for all the responses.I noted all and will take the necessary action.
I blew compressor air into the fuel line leading to the tank and finally got the water separator filled now while running. However, it still shutting off on the hills.
I am going to get some Diesel 911 to put into the tank to melt any ice in the bottom if so.

Anyone, has a diagram of the fuel tank layout showing the internal components of a L6060?

Thanks for your responses.After a long troublshooting for a few days. I discovered it was dead yellow jack that was found in the fuel line to tank. After removal, normal operation resumed.

Seriously though, I suppose there's no screen on the bottom of the pickup tube in the tank (part 180 below). I would think that some form of screen would be a good idea to stop crap that gets into the tank from getting into the fuel lines. Most if not all cars and trucks have a screen on the bottom of the pickup, gasoline engines at least.

I'm assuming that the yellow jacket got into the tank and then got sucked up into the fuel line. It's not hard to believe that a wasp or similar could end up in a 5 gallon fuel container, or could even be living in the nozzle of a more fancy fuel dispensing system.

I had an ongoing battle with an Andrena bee (possibly) that liked to nest in the water pump indicator outlet (pee hole) of the Yamaha outboard that came with the boat I bought a few years ago. I couldn't figure out why the outlet kept getting blocked until one day I saw the little guy emerge from the hole.
