I like it. I like it a lot! Does the thumb tuck in pretty well in the fully open position?

Yes the bucket will curl to the original position if that helps.

I wanted to share my latest project on the L35. I could not find anywhere on the internet where someone else has attempted this type of thumb installation. Long story short, I Frankensteined a way to add a hydraulic thumb that is as close to a factory option as possible when it was never offered by Kubota for the BT900. I did not like the idea of an aftermarket spool valve with hoses hanging all over the place.

I was able to find a Husco sectional valve 5002-A1 on Ebay to add to the controls. I noticed all the holes were already made for the section to be added. ($150)

There was even the three holes to install the foot pedal control. I sourced all the pedal control parts for a BH92 backhoe. ($375)

The thumb is from Gentec and is part number HT824. ($1200)

I then took the tractor to a local hydraulic hose shop, who were able to custom make all the hoses and fittings for me. ($500)

This project seems expensive but is worth it in the long run. This tractor has served me well and I have no plans of replacing. See the pictures to show all the details. Hope this helps anyone that is considering adding a hydraulic thumb.

Hi,
I was looking at a solution for adding a hydraulic thumb to my L35. Someone suggested your link. After reviewing I think it's the best solution I've seen.
I have couple questions. Is the petal on left because they hudraulics have to be connected there or can it also be on right? The pedal

I was looking for a solution for putting a hydraulic thumb on my L35. Someone suggested your post as a food solution. After reviewing I believe it also is best method. I did have couple questions.
Does the pedal have to be on left side because that's where controls are. So you have the part number for the pedal and controls for the bh92?

I doubt you'll get a response from RaleighL35. He hasn't signed on in over a year and only posted a couple of times before that. I think @L35 did the same installation. He's still active and might be able to answer your questions.

Here's a shot of the parts for the BH92 foot control from the kubotausa.com site. By keeping the control on the left, you can use all the holes provided. The existing valve sections remain where they are and you just add a section on the end, using longer tie rods of course. If you add the section at your right foot you'd need to move the hose inlet/outlet section. Possible complications:
* May not be clearance
* You'd have to provide your own new mounting holes
* Linkage from BH92 may not fit. Besides being opposite handed, the distances may be different.

BTW, the valve section from a BH92 kit won't fit the BT900. I think they're both Husco, but different series.

I’ve been following along. My setup is still working excellent. I use it a lot and wish I had done it sooner. As @PoTreeBoy mentioned pedal on the left is the way to go. Operation after a few uses is second nature. Any other questions just ask.

Those are the parts I ordered. I built my own pedal because I’m cheap. Also part #010 in potrerboys parts pic I made myself, same reason. If you need any visual aid of a specific area let me know.

Oh and to answer your question about the tie rods, yes I did get longer ones from a local hardware supplier. They don’t need to be anything special. All thread rod is the name. I’m sure McMaster-Carr sells it online. Higher the grade the better but standard works also.

Do you know the part numbers I need to order for the Bh92 pedal parts.

Thanks. That gives me about all I needed to know. For now anyway. That's very helpful. Thanks!
I did have couple more questions. I did notice Raleigh used 3 section of hose. Fo you think it would be best to do that or would one hose all the way work? And woyld 1/4 inch be best especially on going thru main trunk. Did you usr the one ft. Bucket or 2 foot bucket with the thumb. Or does it matter with the Gentec thumb.

I used 2 pieces of hose but I don’t see why 1 wouldn’t work. Advantage to 2 is if swing the boom against something and damage it it’s easier to replace a short section. 1/4” hose is what I used. I think my bucket is around 18” wide but I’m not home to check.
