For those of you like me who have a 5 gallon can with flame shield from midwest can and want to use some type of transfer pump, here's a good video on removing it. The flame shield prevents you from reaching the bottom of the can.

I actually used the smallest screw driver I have and a set of locking needle nose pliers and regular needle nose pliers. I used the screw driver to allow me to pray the flame shield away from the can to get locking needle nose pliers on it (to prevent it from falling into the can) then used regular needle nose pliers to pull the flame shield out of the can.

To bring the can fully back to a time when there was common sense, get an EZ-Pour spout and a vent.

Exactly!

That was the first thing I did before I even used the can - changed the spout and added a vent .

I went with the the ez-pour hi-flo kit as that was what TSC had in stock.

I am looking for advise on fuel transfer pumps. It is becoming difficult for me to lift 5 gal cans to fill my tractor (B2601) I would like one with a discharge hose long enough to reach from ground to fill cap on hood. I use about 10-15 gal a month so I do not want to get 55 gal drums and just looking for something to help me fuel the tractor without the heavy lifting.
I have a 12v transfer pump from Vevor , I put hose in 5 gal jerry can position on the ground and nozzle and hose is plenty long to fill my L2501 . works Great even in Cold days .

I use this to suck old gas out of motorcycles and generator.

I have a neighbor who was complaining that he no longer was able to comfortably lift 5-gal cans of diesel to fill his tractor and he wanted to know how I, who had four of those cans in my truck bed at the time, was able to do it, being 20 yr older than him. I said, well, I lift them by the handles and climb up on the tractor and fill the tank. He said, but how can you physically handle that at your age. I said, well, from other things I've seen you do, you have a condition known as OCD and I expect you are not capable of only putting maybe 3 1/2 gallons in a jug because that "wastes" the capacity of five gallons. Am I right?. He said, well, yes, it would drive him nuts not to fill the jugs all the way. I said, well, I do the partial fill and there is therefore no physical problem. No way I can help you with the OCD thing and you will simply have to purchase some smaller jugs, perhaps the 2 1/2 gal size. Well, he said, that would waste the 5 gallon jugs. I said, ok there is really no problem, you just have to suffer or buy some sort of pumping system. He says he uses about three five-gal cans a year in his 25 Hp tractor.

Same guy there who gave me two screwdrivers from the screwdriver drawer in his large tool chest because the color of the handles did not match the other handles in the drawer. No help for such people, really, though it isn't harmful to others and I got two new screwdrivers to help him. out of his discomfort with the color thing.

I was fortunate in getting a free 100 gallon diesel tank off of a wrecked refrigerated trailer. Mounted it on a small trailer I had and installed a Fill-Rite pump setup with a battery and solar panel and two filters with valves. I live in Texas so I applied and received a free red dye diesel permit for off road use and now I purchase red dye diesel (no more than 10,000 gallons per month) for about 45 cents per gallon less than at-the-pump price. May take a while to recoup my expenses but being able to fill up five (5) different diesel powered equipment from the ground is why I opted this route.

Nice set up. Years ago my first farm fuel trailer had two of those tanks mount on a old pickup trailer frame. I had a buddy that scrapped semi trailers and I had got the tanks from him for free.

Thanks "hedgerow", sometimes repurposing things end up costing me almost as much as buying new, but what's the fun in that.
