Every jug of coolant in my shop says ELC or LLC ethylene glycol on the label. You will be hard pressed to find anything else in an auto supply store.

Dan
That’s nice, Dan, that the jugs in Your Shop are identified. Unfortunately, as of last month when I was shopping for the correct fluid for an elderly woman in our church…. who discovered her Chevy Traverse ran “hot” a couple weeks ago…she stopped at a convenience store and some other man an and the clerk decided upon what type she needed, and sold her some Peak ”pink” coolant and poured it into her reservoir.
I help her every month to fill her car with gas and wash it and fill the WW-fluid, check her tires etc ….(her Navy veteran husband (E2-Diesel) suddenly died last Feb and he always did these things fo her…. she never even bought gas for herself…. so I do this every month for her…. Anyway….She called me to check on it for her the day after it got hot….….
….
SO…I went over there…found the half-full jug of Pink PEAK coolant…. and threw it in the trash because her Chevy REQUIRES DEX-COOL….. (happens to be orange)….

.I WENT TO WALMART…and NONE of the many different brands of coolant described the TYPE… None of them even Mentioned “Ehylene Glycol”…. Prestone had 4 different COLORS which promised to be for “Asian” or “European” or “Universal”…. etc..
PEAK ALSO had several different COLORS which Claim compatibility, ets etc

SuperTech had TWO types: A concentrate and a diluted…but neither identified as OAT or HOAT…

But NO ONE identified as Ehylene Glycol. NONE of them.

I finally managed to find Dex-Cool at AutoZone and flushed and re-filled her system.

SO, Dan…. what YOU have at YOUR shop …is not helpful to folks out on the street reading jugs of stuff presently on shelves that DON’T IDENTIFY themselves.

grrrrr….

This super tech? That prints “ethylene glycol” right on the back label?

That is odd they didn’t have any dex though, I’ve been buying my dex cool from Wally World almost exclusively since I had my 96 half ton.

I will mske it reskal easy for you.

Ethylene glycol is the base for just about every brand of autooitive coolant made. Propylene glycol is a very rare and uncommon exception and usually advertised as nontoxic. Sierra used to be one. Hint - ethylene glycol is extremely toxic.

Extended life fiorulations are the defacto standard today and make up 95+ percent of the products on the shelves today. IAT "conventional green" antifreeze is the lone notable exception.

If you threw darts blindfolded at the jugs on a shelf you would never hit anything but ethylene glycol based extended life coolants

Its the weather. I was just in Advance three days ago and was going to pick up some Dex but they were sold out. Everything was in low supply or sold out except for the IAT crap that was fully stocked and collecting dust on the top right corner.

You’re probably right.

I recently traveled through Oklahoma during their “snow storm” of 3 inches. Was absolutely taken aback at the empty shelves, and towns completely shut down.

Panda… RE-read my post in which I mentioned SuperTech…I did not say it failed to mention Ethylene Glycol. … What I wrote was, It failed to identify as OAT or HOAT.

PS: I like most Supertech products.

Dan: I don‘t need schooling. I know E-G is the most common basic-ingredient…but there are differences that exist …and many of the products FAIL to mention or identify their differences.

That means …even if a knowledgeable buyer were seeking a particular product…. he will be unnecessarily challenged to find which product is which because the industry has gotten so secretive about labels.

“NO ONE identified as ethylene glycol” was also claimed directly after the statement that OAT/HOAT formulation wasn’t mentioned.

Either way, it’s not important. Carry on being exceedingly angry and using lots of capital letters. It’ll be alright

Cut the crap. For all practicsl purposes

Everything is eythylene glycol

Everything is extended life (OAT in some form) with IAT ("conventional green") being the lone rare and easily identified exception

Ooops…You are correct… I did include SuperTech in the group not mentioning E-G.…. bran-pharr t I guess.

(I use CAPs to emphasize… maybe I should use bold instead.…. I didn’t realize some folks read with their EARS. LOL)

I maintain my irritation over the failure of coolants to clearly identify as OAT or HOAT.

Dexcool got a bad reputation because when first released, it had 2-EHA in it.
At the same time, GM switched from metal gaskets to plastic ones…

I use Zerex G-05 or G-48 instead of Dexcool…
