That’s nice, Dan, that the jugs in Your Shop are identified. Unfortunately, as of last month when I was shopping for the correct fluid for an elderly woman in our church…. who discovered her Chevy Traverse ran “hot” a couple weeks ago…she stopped at a convenience store and some other man an and the clerk decided upon what type she needed, and sold her some Peak ”pink” coolant and poured it into her reservoir.Every jug of coolant in my shop says ELC or LLC ethylene glycol on the label. You will be hard pressed to find anything else in an auto supply store.
Dan
I help her every month to fill her car with gas and wash it and fill the WW-fluid, check her tires etc ….(her Navy veteran husband (E2-Diesel) suddenly died last Feb and he always did these things fo her…. she never even bought gas for herself…. so I do this every month for her…. Anyway….She called me to check on it for her the day after it got hot….….
….
SO…I went over there…found the half-full jug of Pink PEAK coolant…. and threw it in the trash because her Chevy REQUIRES DEX-COOL….. (happens to be orange)….
.I WENT TO WALMART…and NONE of the many different brands of coolant described the TYPE… None of them even Mentioned “Ehylene Glycol”…. Prestone had 4 different COLORS which promised to be for “Asian” or “European” or “Universal”…. etc..
PEAK ALSO had several different COLORS which Claim compatibility, ets etc
SuperTech had TWO types: A concentrate and a diluted…but neither identified as OAT or HOAT…
But NO ONE identified as Ehylene Glycol. NONE of them.
I finally managed to find Dex-Cool at AutoZone and flushed and re-filled her system.
SO, Dan…. what YOU have at YOUR shop …is not helpful to folks out on the street reading jugs of stuff presently on shelves that DON’T IDENTIFY themselves.
grrrrr….
